So many little spaces are opened to the public and perfect for quiet moments outside even when you are stuck in the middle of the city. The lunch hour crowd brings out many people seeking the sun as well. I started talking with a gal on the next bench because of her casually coordinated purple accented outfit and interesting Osborn craft footwear. I like what she does, “curatorial assistant.” That totally rocks. In my next life I would love to closely study and work with art and museums. Speaking of museums, if you are in the Bay Area, please visit the De Young Museum’s Botticelli to Braque exhibit going on through the end of May. A great variety of masters are included in the presentation on tour from The National Galleries of Scotland. I like the look of art lovers enjoying the pieces. This is one of those rare cases when having someone in my shot is the very thing that makes the shot. This visit was after our early morning participation at Golden Gate Park for a walk/ run by O2 …

The holidays have been leaving me a buzz with good cheer though sadly under the weather.  It’s tough when you have many things you’d like to do, but not enough energy to do them. I need to reserve my energy for the weeks ahead of me. I am leaving for vacation, but not before being served a good helping of Christmas spirit in San Francisco. May you have a Happy Holiday, dear friends! Remember to spread cheer far and wide, and you’ll be rewarded tenfold.  See you in 2015!

    Voices.  I hear voices now and then. Typically my own thoughts,  often my intuition speaking to me, but primarily it’s my stomach  taking over the loud speaker.    Case in point, a voice said last week, “It’s okay to miss Barre Mix in favor of pancake mix.”  Pancakes get lonely with only a pour of maple syrup.  Bacon, as we all know, is always a good idea.  It’s convenient to toss it into the oven  (400 degrees for 15 minutes) while brushing my teeth and washing up in the morning.     This was not the first instance of bacon trumping barre but I don’t use that excuse too often.  Just the other night the voice of my physical therapist played in my head as I ran to evening class in the pouring rain, “Unless you have a fever, you need to work out.”   Maybe she knows I need to off set all of the bacon.       My morning kitchen counter condition +++ The color gray has been speaking to me in a …

The scene at The Mill SF A smattering of my top snippets from the week.  This time around, I am recapping by time of day versus day of the week.  Aren’t most things more memorable around when we eat anyway?   I invite you to follow me @blogger_bp on Instagram during the week if you aren’t already.    Midnight Snack   Or more accurately, 10:45 pm snack.  When you want something chocolatey on a week night and know there’s a bag of Bob’s Red Mill Brownie Mix in your cupboard, it’s easy to give in.  After trimming off the edges I saw this imperfectly perfect giant brownie square.  Why bother cutting some more? I’m just going to eat the whole  thing anyway…   A giant brownie is all I could need.   +++     Breakfast    Toasters lined up at The Mill on Divisadero … I can see why they need all of these. What sits behind me. In Hayes Valley Miette Bakery is consistently stunning with their fully stocked jars of old fashioned candy and towers of perfectly packaged baked goods.  I like that it is difficult to take a bad picture in here because of their beautiful merchandising and interior details.  Whether or not I eat anything in here is besides the point.  It’s just a complete dream. Miette Bakery A short walk around the area brought me to Papabubble.  Producing all of their tightly designed candy in house, it smelled like sweet berries and cotton candy, prompting me to sample their kiwi and watermelon flavors, though I was allowed to taste my way through the shop if I wanted to.  You must come yourself to see the detail in each piece of candy. In stark contrast to Miette’s feast for the eyes, Papabubble’s minimal interior aesthetic still made a strong impact.  My favorite display is their little case here. Photo c/o The Social Type While doing my Snippets I realized they are all about time with girlfriends.  This is perfect since rumor has it that International Women’s Friendship Month is well under way.  These are some of the new adult friends I referred to in last week’s post.  In no particular order, this is how I’ve enjoyed the week with them. YESTERDAY This is my view looking up from the bench I sat at with Tête-à-Tête having the most honest three hour conversation about relationships (friendship, marriage, dating, courtship, mothers and daughters) in a long time.  To say that I may have gotten a bit of whip lash from knocking my head back so much from laughing is an understatement.  There was a steady rotation of familiar passers by sitting on the neighboring bench or hanging back under the tree near us.  I do not think this was incidental.  I do believe some of the men who returned while their families were eating, shopping, and strolling …

My time as of late, has been spent getting my brain and attitude into gear.  I had needed to clear out my head, entertaining one thing at a time.   My blog, it seems, is back on my front burner.     Friday    The Makeshift Society mixer at Alternative Apparel introduced me to more members of this community that I am embarrasingly inactive in.  I had a fantastic basil gimlet, the recipe for which I still am hoping to get, met a truly too-cool-to-be-my-friend-but-I-really-think-she-could-be photographer, ordered a custom piñata from a creative cutie whose resume I covet, found out about C2C Project Space,  met an independent game developer who called me out on my self criticism, connected with a stationer for a studio visit, met a gal whose penchant for gift wrapping and snail mail rivals my own (at least it rivals the abilities I have in my head), was introduced to a vibrant girl whose blog I didn’t know about then (but do now) and her sweet little Noodle, and finally met Rena Tom …

  BACON TRUMPS BARRE   Waking up at 4:00 a.m. from a car alarm is par for the course as a city dweller.  I thought it would never stop, after the first five intense minutes, then eventually slipped into an urban state of sleep.  At 6:50 a.m., I rose from bed hungry for two things:  another shot at R.E.M.  and thick cut bacon.     Your wish is granted.  Bacon IS healthy.  Birthday card c/o Paper Source. Effect c/o PicStitch 7:10, 7:40, 8:00 … the clock ticked on when a reminder from good old Soul Cycle, my remote workout buddy and keeper of good sense, came in at 8:04 a.m. reading, “Good Morning!  9:00 Barre …. Sometimes the mind doesn’t cooperate, even after writing for close to 14 or 15 hours on one post over two days.  Upside:  I always have my snippets to recharge the batteries!
