The Fugly Stick

I woke up the other day and saw that I was hit hard by the Fugly (feeling ugly) Stick.  I don’t mean “effing ugly,” the super harsh meaning of fugly in pop culture, but “feeling ugly” with the emphasis on raw emotions, coated in nerves, wrapped tightly in mental cobwebs & sealed with shadows under the eyes, a back ache  or greasy hair.

Weekender

I dream often of having a weekend life, where at least once a week I can look out of my window and see birds not bums, and pools of water instead of pools of – well… it IS downtown San Francisco if you know where I am going with that. Last weekend we had a rejuvenating little trip to Big Sur.  Living in the city begs for weekend road trips to the coast, the woods, wine country, what have you.  How happy these excursions into nature make me.  Though I spent a lot of time playing in the woods and outdoors as a kid back east, I wouldn’t call myself a nature girl.   I imagine that would involve a willingness to sleep in a bag instead of an air mattress or foraging in the wilderness in place of keeping the campsite lock box full of groceries from Whole Foods.  A nature girl only cares where the sun is so she can tell time or navigate during a day long hike, versus a girl like …

Big Love for this Little List

I am in love with love!  All day Saturday my Instagram feed was flooded with a variety of perfect pictures deserving to be shared.  If we were sitting on the same sofa I would have been waving my iPhone in your face all day saying “Look at this!!!  So ____ *funny, sweet, clever –  fill in the blank*!”     Do you have any pictures you would’ve shown me if you could? Any Instagram profiles you think I might like?  Oh, and if you’re interested in my everyday story telling beyond this blog, please find me on Instagram @blogger_bp.   Consider these pictures my belated Valentine to you, social media style.  xoxo – bobbie   K i d   L o v e @moma_blog @lovelyindeed   F l o w e r   P o w e r @littlebigbell @jonathanadler @garancedore W h a t   A   G i r l   W a n t s   …  W h a t   A   G i r l   N e e …

Couples Counseling

My editorial calendar and I need therapy.  It is not a love/ hate relationship.  Having a blog means posting content regularly.  It means you are wanting and willing to share your vision and your thoughts within your genre of food, fashion, fine art, entertaining, lifestyle, or in my case, personal narrative, and hoping that you have nuggets of good information hiding in there of value to someone other than yourself. Having been actively blogging for about two years now (as I do not count my four yearly posts earlier on)  I have resisted the editorial calendar thinking that her function was for busy bloggers, serious bloggers, and prolific bloggers, not lil ol’ me.  When I started posting with some regularity in 2013, I heard from here, there, and everywhere that the secret to success is the editorial calendar.  Heck no, I resisted.  And yet, someone gave her my address and in she popped into my life with all of her enthusiastic and organized glory. My editorial calendar (or let’s just call her E.C. for short) …

Snowball

Putting things off does not make them go away.  HOW do I not remember that every single time I feel like I am drowning in a sea of to-dos? Taxes, insurance, dues, etc etc.  The annual things are most fun, especially when they are all scheduled at the same time. This is my Sunday night.  Monday better not piss me off.

Will You Be My Valentine?

If Christmas is the World Cup of the card sending world, does that make Valentine’s Day the Super Bowl? What better way to rally around the sweetest little love notes than with a #HappyMailHappyHour collaboration with the one and only Minted at their San Francisco offices downtown?  I was more than delighted to work with such a well known brand that supports thousands of independent artists from around the world to produce their designs in card, print, and textile formats.  We knew this collaboration would bring a letter writing paper party of epic proportions following my past two HMHH events (in August & in November).  Want to write some Minted Valentine’s of your own?  Keep on reading … Gathering a group of paper happy blog buddies for cocktails and card writing was easy.   Everyone wants an excuse to get together for a good time, and having a mixologist as a friend sealed the deal. Happy hour was on!!!  Ashley Rose Kirschling created us a gorgeous grapefruit cocktail with the generosity of Skyy Vodka (gluten free, natch).  This …

I Like Being An Adult

Neon sign taken at Mr. Holmes Bakehouse. I like that adults can joke this way. You will believe me when I tell you that being an adult often sucks.  As I tell friends,  life as a grown up sometimes  “soox” (it’s slang, and pronounced phonetically) because things can suck so bad. Adulthood is not without its benefits. During a chat with Soul Cycle we bantered about what we like about being adults.  Though once in a while I look at children and wax nostalgic, I think of all the great things we can enjoy as grown ups because hell- we deserve it. I like being an adult because I can go out for a decadent breakfast alone when I just “need some space.” I like being an adult because I don’t need to wear a sweater just because my mom gets cold by looking at me. I like being an adult because I know that if someone is a douche bag it’s not automatically about me.  As adults we learn that it never is. I …
